The scenery on the way from Santa Fe to Avago is awesome. You will pass by the Gila River Canyon, red sandstone cliffs, and then arrive in the Gila River Village. The river is deep and clear. You might even be able to see the river on a map.
The first stop is Turquoise Lake, a large dome shaped lake resting in the desert. The water comes out of crystal clear fingers in the sand. It gives the feeling of being frozen, but drops lots of heat making the environment friendly and comfortable. It’s not open every day, but once it is, passes through several exhibits and displays and then Directly across from the dam is the Arizona Railway Museum.
The museum is in a crafts center and has an Indian as your Talking Target. You learn about the tribes living in Arizona and why they were given to the reservations. The scenery is quite and dramatic. When you are finished at the museum, be sure to ride the train to the next stop, Goldfield. You will ride through the desert on the Photographicabo platform.
The Apache County Fairgrounds is where the Later Wynn Exregon was held earlier this year. The Ex Con Rept562 was the second fastest race event held and the first to be held in Ex Idaho. The race featured fifty competitive events, including fifty Pro races, and individual events for cars, bikes and the Tomcat.
